A one-minute video of a gouache sketch of Valentine's Day roses. I did a quick outline of shapes in pencil and then covered with gouache. As an opaque watercolor, gouache is more forgiving. I can correct mistakes by reactivating dry paint with water or by going over with new layers of color, just like oil painting. This is my fourth oil painting of nearly a dozen works springing from our Hilton Head trip in May 2021. It also serves as an example of painting emotions. I can hear the laughter, splashing and joy of Izzy and Ruby. From plein air sketches to this studio painting in the midst of winter, this quiet video shows a time-lapse of this 11x14 work on canvas.
