The Plein Air Artists of Central Kentucky call this Berea bridge at Brush Creek Park “the Monet Bridge.”
But I decided to sit under the bridge, up a crick with a pastel stick. I loved the dark values of the rock ledges in the background and how dark the water was in shadow.
The reflections are the best I’ve done in rendering water.
I’ll show you the progress first on my painting, starting with the lay in of values and masses with gouache and then the highlights and final tweaks in pastel.
I finish up by showing you the work of some of the other artists who gathered on this unusually comfortable August day in Kentucky with temperatures starting in the 60s and only reaching the 70s during the heat of the day.
