When it rained for three days straight, it was time to get out the gouache (opaque watercolors) and do a painting from a photograph outside Arcanum, Ohio, my hometown.

I love the way the country lane, the rows of sunflowers and the shadows from the mailbox and light poles all point to the focal point of the barn in the distance. This is a dramatic example of how these elements add to atmospheric perspective or the way of showing distance on a flat 2D surface of a painting.

This is the 59th episode in my journey as an artist. I use the videos to track my progress and (I hope) inspire you to celebrate the beauty of life with a great, new hobby.
